Universal will release The Secret Life of Pets in theaters starting July 8th, 2016 next summer. Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy produce the film directed by Chris Renaud ( Despicable Me 1 & 2), co-directed by Yarrow Cheney and written by Brian Lynch and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio. One of the most important and influential filmmakers in China, and a core member of China’s Fifth Generation directors, Zhang Yimou started his career as a cinematographer and became a director in 1987. Comedy superstars Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet and Kevin Hart make their animated feature-film debuts in The Secret Life of Pets, co-starring Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress & Albert Brooks. The film was an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival 2014 and the Toronto International Film Festival 2014.
